bethmarie.....

My son just finished his sophomore year at the University of Rochester, and was a Biomedical Engineering Major. I say "was" because he just switched to Biology with a track toward cell and microbiology research. He also has his credits for a Biomedical Engineering Minor. Fantastic school, affiliated with Strong Memorial Hospital adjacent/part of campus. Go to their website www.rochester.edu and start browsing.

Our son is also a two year starter and leadoff batter for the Yellowjackets. They had a great season with a 28-13 record, and just missed by a few points (NCAA system regarding wins/losses/competition - in region and outside of the region, and rankings) making the NCAA Regional tournament which just concluded this evening, and the winner moving on to the Division III World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin.

The head coach is Joe Reina. Great guy, manager, and really cares for his players both on and off the field, but more importantly in the classroom. The players are all close and usually dorm together after their freshman year. Son picked Rochester over Tufts, University of Chicago, Emory, Tulane, and Missouri. The coach really put forth the interest in having our son at UR. Freshman year the students are all required to live in the freshman dorms which are adjacent to all of the main campus buildings, and right across the street from the athletic facilities.

I can give you more specific information, just Private Message.

Biomedical engineering

The 21st century presents global challenges in medicine, the environment, resources, energy, health, and sustainability.

Biomedical and Biological Engineering is a new and rapidly evolving engineering disciplines based on the increasingly quantitative science of medicine and biology.

The world-wide community of scientists and
engineers that are addressing these problems through medical and biological engineering systems analysis and design. This is accomplished through enhancing and promoting medical and biological engineering in the broadest manner through research, education, and professional development.

Yes, DII schools are limited, however I
recommend the following:

1. Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland at College Park (versus Center for Bioelectronics, Biosensors and Biochips at Earl Hall in South Carolina)

2. Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering. Naval Research Labs. (Coop Opportunities)

3. Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering. Washington U Saint Louis, MO

4. Biomedical Engineering, Hudson Hall, Duke University

5. Biological and Irrigation Engineering, Utah St. U

6. Computer Science, Bioinformatics Research
Center Cameron Applied Research Center. UNC Charlotte.

7. Dept of Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Driftmier Engineering Center, University of Georgia

8. Joint Dept of Biomedial Eng at UNC & NC State

9. Virginia Bioinformatics Institute, Virginia Tech

10. Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, NC State

11. Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine. Univ of TRM-Leipzig, Leipzig, Saxony

12. Biological & Environmental Engineering. Cornell, Ithaca NY

13. Biological & Agricultural Engineering, Texas A&M, College Station TX

14. Ag & Biological Engineering, Purdue, West Lafayette, IN

15. Agricultural & Biological Engineering, Ag Engineering Bldg. Penn State, University Park, PA

16. Biosciences. Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Pretoria, South Africa

17. Biomedical engineering, Christian World Bldg. Seoul, Korea

18. School of Physics, Shandong University, Jinan Shandong.

19. Institut d'Optique Graduate School, MaCSyBio, Campus Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France (and for the wine!)

20. Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Univ of Arkansas

21. Bioengineering. Biotechnology Building, Binghamton Univ., NY

22. Materials Science and Engineering, Lehigh Univ, Bethlehem, PA

23. Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, NSRIC Bld. Iowa St. Univ. Ames, IA

several others

emme for POC's.

Good Luck
