They are in their last "probation/transition" year going from D1 to D3. They play in the eastern division of the SCAC. This should be the last year that they are not eligible for the NCAA tournament.

They have been getting better and better since the change with a whole new group of players. I suspect that they will likely have the best (maybe 2nd) record in the eastern SCAC.

First class facilities and an excellent academic school.

The move to DIII was financial. Since DII also involves scholarships, the financial commitment to cut athletic program costs would not have been met. I would expect they would have lost even more revenue since basketball attendance, and attendance at other events, would have decreased, in all likelihood.
As it turns out, BSU was just a bit ahead of some other schools that are now in the midst of the switch.
What was also reported reported at the time was their desire to affiliate with a conference with very high academics and DIII athletics. At the DIII level, the SCAC is up their with the best on each.
While I don't know anything about their coaching staff, BSU is reported to have DI facilities. Their baseball team has done very well in the Eastern Division of the SCAC, even though they have not be eligible for the tournament or post season.
Really impressive athletics facility for its size, knowledgeable coaches, very nice field with some kind of sculture about seven (I think) brothers that all played for BSC, okay locker room, covered batting cages.

Right on about the transfer to D3. The school felt it was spending too much money on athletic scholarships and didn't have enough for others. They told us percents, but I can't remember. Now there is LOTS of scholarship money and they are very helpful about helping see what you can get for money.

Dorms typical freshman: so-so, but on the larger size. (Hey, they're for freshman) New science building. Buildings and grounds well kept. Small class sizes. Campus has gates and guards. Not in a good section of Birmingham and nothing you can or would want to walk to for eating, shopping or entertainment. Very, very good alum connections and support. Campus half Greek. Has a short term in January.
All,

Had the opportunity to see BSU in action this weekend and they have a pretty remarkable squad of players. They hosted a 3-team tourney with Wabash College [Indy] and Adrian College [Mich] to kick of spring break baseball.
As a N Ga resident, we see alot of D3 & D1 baseball and BSU has a team that appears more than ready to take on the SCAC and whomever else gets in their way. The roster looks to be half metro ATL players + half ALB players comprising a very strong roster in my opinion. Frankly, many of the BSU players looked to possess some D1 talent so they should make the full switchover to D3 in strong fashion.
I am not aware of their probationary status as we were not in town to see them particularly but if they aren't qualified for this years playoffs, it will be good news for whomever they would have faced!
Last night late they topped Adrian which is apparently a powerhouse team as well....they certainly looked the part.
Finally...the facilities were very nice as well though not the best I have seen in the SE.
