Wiffle toss. Do it like egg toss. It gets pretty fun when the kids are stretched out. Each kid and his partner gets a ball and they both have to catch it. It gets really fun if you get a day with a 20 MPH cross wind.

If the kids are really good with wiffles, we used to make the batters stand behind a basketball pole and the pitcher would have to curve it around the pole. Pitcher hits the pole, ball, batter hits the pole, out. I always loved the holes on one side wiffles.
This isn't a baseball theme, but it was after a baseball game, and with a baseball team...

For 2B's 11th birthday, we rented an inflatable boxing ring (of all things) that had these giant boxing gloves - they were big and heavy enough so that the boys could knock each other over, but they couldn't hurt each other. Kind of like one of those moonwalk things except it was a boxing ring. Mostly they just bounced around and laughed. I know it sounds crazy, but his day care had rented one for a "fun day," and that's what he wanted. We had a downpour that evening and they ended up just sliding all over the thing. They had an unmitigated blast.

I know this is a little over the top, but it was right before we were going to move from our wonderful, happy home in Georgia to the great unknown in Florida, so we wanted it to be really special. It's still his favorite birthday to remember.

It was also the very same day that he pitched 7 innings of a 12-inning game for the Newton County Nationals 11-12 Dixie Majors All-Stars, allowing no earned runs. We won 2-1 to tie for the district championship and qualified for state. All of his teammates and their parents came over right after the game. We had one of those birthday cakes where they put a photo into the icing somehow (his all-star photo, naturally), and for dinner the boys all made individual pizzas. The team spent the night and watched movies (2Bdad and I stayed up for The Sandlot and went to bed).

Back then, his friends were all small enough so that we could have a bunch of them running around the house at once. Now they're all 6'2". Come to think of it, an inflatable boxing ring would still be fun for birthday #15 this summer. ..(edit)...then again, maybe not! Eek

Thanks for the opportunity to relive this memory! It was so much fun.

And, yes! Whiffle ball is great! Smile
