Milligan baseball - Buffs sweep UVA-Wise

Milligan College baseball swept a doubleheader from UVA-Wise in Appalachian Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon by scores of 7-4 and 5-2 at Anglin Field.
After giving up two runs in the second inning of game one, the Buffs tied it up in the third and put the game away with three runs in the fourth. With one out in the third, Milligan’s Will Little reached safely with an infield hit followed by a double from Dustin Price. Kory Kinnear would bring Little and Price home on a double. UVA-Wise tried to rally, scoring one run in the fifth and sixth, but fell short.

Todd Speas got the win on the mound, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. Chris Shockley got the save, pitching 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball in relief.

Trailing 2-1 in the nightcap, the Buffs used a four-run fifth inning for another win. Cody Whitlock scored the first run on a bases-loaded walk. Thomas Lister brought home Little and Price on a single, and Meade came home on a passed ball.

Adam Taylor went all seven innings for the win. He gave up two runs on nine hits and struck out five.

Milligan (12-9, 5-2) and UVA-Wise (3-10-1, 1-8) will conclude the three-game series today at 1 p.m.

"If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot."
