Can someone please explain blackouts? I always thought that if the local game was NOT sold out, then the national TV broadcast would be blacked out for the local viewers.

Yesterday, I was watching all the games on my iPad with the coolest app ever, the MLB.TV app.

Sitting in Joliet, IL, the app knows exactly where I am viewing from. The Cubs game was blacked out (both the WGN and the ROOT feed) and the White Sox game was also blacked out. Now, it was in Cleveland!!!

Even though they didn't all go due to the weather, I'm positive the Cubs opener was sold out.

What's the deal? Will I never be able to watch the Cubs and Sox on my iPad this year?

Whenever I have encountered them, back when I was much younger and much less wiser, I never had any recollection, let alone an explanation. Plenty of empty evidence around, but alas, no explanation. Sorry papi.

It might have something to do with your 'cool app' being overtaxed, or overworked, to the point that it turned into a 'cold slap'!

By the way, app or slap, Cubs lost and Sox tried to.

It's amazing what gets accomplished nowadays with all of the new fangled technology that abounds. The ability to deliver to your neighbor the semi-finals of last summer's USSSCBL Sand Castle Building contest from Duluth while delivering to you MLB, at the same time using the same do-hickey or whatever!

I'm sorry to read of the mix up and blackout that you experienced. Probably a crossed wire or something or other.

Nothing personal I'm sure.

Friday's Phillies game was blacked out on ESPN, here. It was on local tv. Only heard the sellout thing for football.

Slingbox claims to allow you to access your home tv signal from computers and smart phones. I thought this is what xfiniity (comcast) was going to do. Turns out, xfinity is like an online 'on demand' type of thing. You can't watch 'anything', only certain programs.

I don't know anyone who has slingbox, so I can't say if it really works.
