Prospect Of The Day

Talk about starting your career with a bang, Clinton (Rangers) righthander Blake Beavan, the 17th overall pick in last year’s draft, tossed six shutout innings against Great Lakes (Dodgers) in his first professional start. After signing too late to make his debut last year, Beavan started 2008 in extended spring training before being called up to Clinton on April 24. The 19-year-old Beavan allowed only three hits, all singles, struck out three, and didn’t walk any. He retired eight of the first nine hitters he faced, and no Loons baserunner got farther than second base against him.

Blake is the son of a poster on HSBBW. Way to go, BB.

Have fun!

Infidel_08 - thanks for posting!

It was just the most awesome experience to date! Blake had not pitched in a "Real" game (with stats) since his HS Playoff game against Cedar Hill May 4th 2007. So needless to say Blake and us parents were so glad he was finally on a "Team" and he would begin pitching. The people in Clinton, IA treated Blake,Bill & I very special as we arrived there to see Blake's debut.

A little history was made during the game for Irving High School: During the game, a pitcher from Blake's HS came in at the 5th inning, some of you may know him; Matt Sartor, his dad is Mike Sartor who used to be the head Baseball Coach for Irving for about 7 years in which both of my older 2 boys played for him and graduated with his older son Ben. He is now the Asst. AD in Irving.

Well here was a 2003 IHS Grad and a 2007 IHS Grad pitching for opposite teams at the same time. Very cool.
