I've run into a situation I can't seem to figure out. It's not a major issue, and it's something I can easily work through, but I wanted to pose the question here more out of curiosity than anything else.

I'm a junior at a college in the northeast. I was throwing a bullpen today (indoor facility, turf mound) and felt some discomfort on my left foot (I'm a LHP). When I went to the training room after I was done and took off my sneaker, I found that there was a blister on the outside of my middle toe. Apparently, it had been rubbing with the 4th toe. It was occuring as I came through to home plate, right at the time that I released the ball.

I can just tape the toe and prevent the rubbing from causing the blister to worsen, so I'm not really worried about the long term ramifications. But has anyone ever had any experience with this? My shoes aren't tied too tight but they are older (from last year). Could it possibly be from a lack of reinforcement? I just got a new pair of sneakers and plan on wearing those tomorrow, but I was wondering if this was just a weird thing or if it maybe could be something mechanical.

JH,
I get a kick out of pitchers, one little blister sets off the panic button!

Joking. Smile

DK has a huge callus and blister on ball of his foot, from getting ready for spring training, think about the preparation you have done and if one blister is all you come away with, good for you!

Take it easy on us pitchers, were fragile haha.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Considering it's still your preseason it will be a little uncomfortable until you get a callus there and you should be fine. Luckily for me I had this happen a while ago and have a pretty large callus on the side of my toe that never goes away. I know other pitchers who have the same thing so i dont think its anything to worry about.
