I tried to dig up a writeup I had re: the Blue-Grey Classic at the University of Tennessee last August, but the post was too old.

For whatever reason this particular showcase seems to elicit a wide range of reactions. Some folks love it - some don't.

Is the Blue-Grey on the level with Perfect Game? No. But I found that the Blue-Grey at UT last year was a worthwhile event. We had plenty of area and regional colleges in attendance. Many of the attendees have signed with colleges and some were drafted. I don't think you can rely on this showcase (or any other showcase for that matter)to create an immediate opportunity to play college or pro ball. However, for many of us the Blue-Grey provided an opportunity to be seen in our own back yard. I can't speak about the Florida events, but I've read favorable comments about the Blue-Grey events that are held on various campuses in the Southeast.

As much as we'd like to admit otherwise, everyone of our players is not a major D-1 or top round draft pick. I think some very good players can sometimes be overshadowed at major events such as Perfect Game. One of the things that has been discussed on this forum is the importance of "fit". It is important to find the college that is the right fit for your player both academically and athletically. Players need to be in a position to play. Buried on a D-1 bench may be ok for some. But you don't get better by not playing. I thought the Blue-Grey folks were sincere in their efforts to discuss playing opportunities at all levels.

In Blue-Grey that we attended, I thought all the players had ample opportunity to showcase their skills. I did find communication with Blue-Grey prior to the event to be difficult. However, after the event was over, I can say that - for us - it was a worthwhile event.

It may be that the "regional" Blue-Grey events are better than the "national" events. This may also be related to timing. The timing of the events limits the coach's ability to attend the event.

Hope this helped.
Thanks. By reading other posts and looking at their website, I had figured out that there definitely is a pecking order to their more established events (Wake – W&M – CC, in that order). It also seems that regardless of the exposure to colleges the players enjoy the experience. My son is not a top 200 national player and would not be eligible for some of the higher profile showcases such as PG. These Florida events seem to fit for us except for the logistics of traveling from Pennsylvania. It would be nice if some scouts/coaches attended.
My older son did BG at William and Mary 2 years ago and we were well-pleased. Good mid-Atlantic college presence, but we also heard from a school as far away as Florida. My son actually enjoyed it more than PG, mainly because of the format-pitchers threw bullpens for the scouts and also later pitched in games. PG is top notch, well-run, well-regarded, but my son's scholly came from a school that saw him at BG, so no complaints here.
