My son was invited to attend the Blue Grey tournament held in Jacksonville in July. Does anyone have any previous experiances you can share with me regarding this showcase? Were there are a lot of scouts...good showcase?

Looking forward to hearing any feedback you may have!

Both of my sons have been to BG at William and Mary; each time, there were 30-40 scouts/coaches present, a very good mid-Atlantic presence, D-1,2,3 schools and pro scouts. Older son was seen for the first time there by the school that signed him. Both experiences were very good. Friends' sons have been to Wake Forest and had very good exposure.
Hello,
The Blue-Grey classics and showcases are first class all the way. The organizers use only the top facilities and are well known throughout the baseball community. They have had nine overall first round picks in the MLB amateur draft that have participated in the Blue- Grey showcases in the past few years alone. They also have many connections to colleges and professional organizations and are willing to help targeted players hook-up with these schools. I would recomend this showcase or classic anytime.
Junior went to BG Jax last year. First showcase for him. SHort answer - if you are not a big time prospect, but are looking for exposure, don't go to Jax. They had about 7-8 coaches/scouts, looking mainly for FL kids...several of the 7-8 were Florida JUCO - nothing wrong with that - they were good JUCOs, but not what was advertised. By the p.m. of the first day of games, they were 3 guys watching. I think they were so embarrassed by the LACK of presence that they didn't even post who was there. Hot as HADES and just as humid all 3 days - mid 90's and mid 90s!! Pretty well run, but Junior's coaches were college freshmen [the FL teams got local coaches]. Good for Junior in that it gave him a taste - we had a good time together, etc. Going to Wm and Mary this year. Friend went to JAX previous year - rained the whole time - it rains in FL pretty much every afternoon - we got lucky with when our games were.

PM me if you want more.
We attended the Blue Grey Classic in JAX last week and I have to tell you I was disappointed in the number of scouts. There seem to be only a handful but I guess they don't always check themselves in...on the last day of the showcase I received a letter from Blue Grey saying that my son had been scouted at Perfect Game and are inviting him to attend the Battle of the States in August or October. As I write this the official scoting report to be posted on PG's web site hasn't been posted on their web site so I am just trying to figure out how Blue Grey scouted my son from a Perfect Game event? Does one attend the other looking for players to invite their showcases? I am just trying to understand so if anyone has any light they can shed on the invite? The invitation was postmarked on the last day of the showcase so he hadn't completed their showcase yet when this went in the mail.

Has anyone attened Battle of the States? Is this one well attended by college and MLB scouts? We would be going to Kissimmee.

Thanks everyone!
Pitcher's Mom, I do not know about them scouting at PG. We just completed Battle of the States I in St. Petersburg. I can not say there were a lot of scouts there. Also, the talent level has a very wide range. Players are placed on teams of 16-18 and then play games. The actual tournament favors Florida teams because they are teams that have been together (hand picked). I would say that if you have been to one of them, you should consider something else.
As I understand it, The Blue-grey showcases are basically a showcase for selected players interested in attending schools from that region. However, their more prestigious battle of the states contest and classics are held throughout the United States in parts of the midwest, south, and east regions and command a larger collection of baseball organizations because it offers the best from the showcases along with selected other prospects not present at their showcases. According to baseball sources, this organization has produced over 200 mlb draft selections in the past 5 years. I think every scouting service makes mistakes occasionally, so you probably can't hold a few bad prospect stats against any organization. Hence, you should anaylize the organization by its participant's success, college & mlb representation over the past five years, and the class of events held. The biggest key to exposure and success for an athelete is connections by the organization putting on the event. Based on what I can uncover, the organization is well established in the college and pro fields. Based on their website http://www.impactprospects.com/index.html they have representation in various sporting fields; might be worth a look.
My son attended the BG at MTSU. The LISTING of scouts in attendance was hefty..Actually we did not see but a handful. Some men with radar guns behind the backstop were with the BG organization, I know this because my husband and I spoke to them. One dissapointment was that the dinner scheduled did not happen, we were told by Gus Bell that the hotel wanted $9800 to use the banquet hall?? He said he would rather use the money for give-aways for the boys..We did not see anyone getting give-aways. I am not knocking the event, because any exposure is good. However, we would have used our money towards a different showcase if we had known..
The Blue Grey at Wake Forest was very good. They listed 43 schools represented. I did not see each of those 43 but I know that well over 50% of that number was there, because they were quite obvious in their logo gear. The other 15-20 could very well have been in street clothes. Some of the people behind the radar guns are Blue Grey staffers, but there were at least 30-35 people behind the screen during the pitching, and only a few were B-G people. My son had good duscussions from coaches from 2 ACC schools, so we thought it was a success.

They give the kids more BP swings than other showcases. They give them more opportunities to show their fielding in a controlled format and they give the pitchers ample throws. Couple that with 3 games and they make sure that all of the kids get playing time. I think the B-G at Wake was a good thing.
Our son also attended the Wake Forset Event. Very nicely done. There were many college coaches in attendance on the fields and in the stands. Most sat together in view of everyone. Some even sat under the stands in the dugout tunnels where there was sade and a great view. There might have been 43 listed, but there were additional schools that checked in late on the third day that were not even listed

Our son is not a "showman" ;he is a player. The Blue Grey gave our son a real shot to show his true talent in game situations. It was our son's best event yet. And The most important part of all was our son enjoyed the experience.

Our son had a conversation after his last game of the event with a D-1 coach that we would not have expected. He has since had mailings from other baseball programs who were listed about coming to visit. We would recommend B-G to those who play the game well. It was a successful 3 days, well spent. clap
