Hello,
I can tell you that the Ohio Blue-Grey baseball Clasic held a couple of weeks ago had over 30 college and professional baseball scouts in attendence. Parents must be pro-active when it comes to promotining their baseball children, and the Blue-Grey offers looks from D3 to D1 at all of their showcases. the atmosphere is very parent-friendly and the opportunities for your child is outstanding. The Wake Forest Showcase is their original showcase and you would be hard pressed to find a negative comment about this event. To be sure, check out their website to see the success rate of those who have attended pastBlue-Grey events.
How do you get involved in the Blue-Grey Classics? On their web page they have a nomination link to submit. On the site it says all nominations will be screened and notified within 2 weeks of submission. Do they follow-up with your references to make a decision or do most nominations need to attend a regional try-out?

My son is a rising sophomore and would like to get him involved next summer. He is projected as a DI/DII prospect.

Thanks in advance for any information.
I personally just attended the Blue-Grey Showcase in Trenton, NJ and it was a very well organized and well-attended event. Their resident hitting coach, Billy Johnson, had come to my school before to work with our players and I must say he is one of the best out there. Likewise, their staff is packed with coaches who know what they are doing.

In regards to the question in the post above, I had my coach submit my nomination form online, then shortly I was sent a packet notifying me that I was scheduled to play in the showcase. So, I believe that there is no regional tryout necessary. Rather, the Blue-Grey office will just send you and your son an information packet saying when to be there, what to do from there, etc.

Best of luck next year in the showcases!

I would definitely get to the 1st week. We went to the 2nd week last year. There were 20-30 colleges from what I could see at that 2nd week. They had a listing at the event which was a tablet of paper with names of colleges in attendance on it that I'm supposing each college coach wrote on. Make sure that your son is D1 or D2 material or that he has contacted a school and spoken to that coach and been told by the coach that he will be there (that may be good for the D1 and D2 schools also).
We were never contacted by any school from that event. I talked to a D2 coach whose assistant went to that event and got from him that my son was only D3 material. He hit .520 in Legion ball last year and there were college pitchers in the league (and yes he hit them when others couldn't - even the college boys on our team). He's not tall (5'9")and a little slow (7.3 60yd. time)for outfield. Where does your son fit? If he doesn't know where he wants to go to school, are you at the right showcase? Are you hoping that some school will contact him first? You may be waiting a long while. If he falls into D2 or D3 class - who is going to be watching for him? What college coach has he contacted?
I think what you will find it is just like a high school coach (of any sport). The better athletes (or presumed better athletes) are promoted more and gravitated to more by the coaches. These are also the ones that the college coaches are looking for/at. If we spend the time with the better athletes and they get a scholarship, we can put that in our promo's. Also you will see the best ones are generally attending all the major showcases. So from which showcase did he get his scholarship from?
Oh, and in talking to a dad from a rival High School, I found out that my son was put down on the Blue-Grey site as will be attending a college that we never looked at. I'm hoping it was an honest clerical mistake. I did contact them and they promptly took the misinformation off their site.
Personally I wish that we had gone to a Perfect Game event. That way at least he gets a rating and maybe knows better we he stands.
Hope this helps.
