What are some of your different rotations that you use during batting practice? For example, we often put a runner at 1st and the batter has to move him around the bases before swinging away. So first pitch, he bunts him to 2nd. Second pitch, the batter hits to right side, runner moves to 3rd. Third pitch, the batter has to hit fly ball for sac fly. Then the hitter gets 10 swings. If he fails on one of his earlier attempts, then he loses a swing.
Wander,
This is almost exactly what I do when I am running the bp, except after the runner is moved around the bases I tell 'em they have two strikes and need to concentrate on putting the ball in play...second round I have them lay down 4 bunts down the lines (2 on each side), face an 0-2 count for two pitches and swing away for 5 to 7 pitches taking the ball wherever the pitches are thrown.
The on deck guy is hitting off a tee into a net with a coach or another player, but definately not just hacking at the ball, but working on the technical aspects of their swing - keeping the hands back, rotating lower half, swinging directly to the ball, finishing swing, etc
My overall approach is to teach that every AB you have to have a plan...
I like all the ideas and concepts I have read here...
