I've never done this before, but dam* I'm tickled!

The boy just finished his first outing of the year.

He started the 4th in relief. Struck out 5 and had an assist on a little trickler back to the mound. He walked 1, hit 2 (oops, the kid throws inside noidea), gave up 0 hits, 0 runs, and got a two-run stand-up double!

Not only that, but it was 43 degrees, and drizzlin'!

What a great way to start his senior year!

By the way, I've really never done this before, but he threw the ball hard, and showed me something! (not that he hasn't before, but WOW!)

Pitchinside,

From the mom of another 04 RHP, congrats to you and your son! What a fun start to his senior year.
clap
I hope my son has as good an outing when they start in about 3 weeks, but I'd like a little more than 43 degrees ... Roll Eyes
My son also likes to pitch inside ... and then hit the outside corner, of course ... and in one game (I think it was soph year, his first pitching for varsity), he threw 11 Ks and 5 HBP in the same game! laugh

My son's team travels to Pascagoula, Mississippi this weekend. Hope I have something to brag about when we get back. Its been rough going so far. He is doing well but the team as a whole is hurting. His last outing, this past saturday, he pithced 7 inning had 14 ks, 1 BB and only gave up 4 hits. But came home with a lost.
Basballdownsouth,
I played for Picayune when in HS, and we played Pascagoula.

Had a kid named Chatham (pretty sure that's it) who pitched a perfect game aginst us. That was at their field. Then they came to our place, and we were up by 6 in the fourth when he came in to relieve. We didn't ge another hit, and lost the game by two. Frown

Good luck, his kid's probably playing for them now!

He didn't throw that hard, but he sure had our number! Still hurts! Thanks Big Grin

Congratulations Pitchinside! Both of my sons have pitched a little, but they were/are usually on the receiving end of that inside pitch. Oldest son set his high school's record for being hit by a pitch 23 times in a season! Yeah he liked to crowd the plate.
Enjoy his senior year! It goes by so fast. My oldest graduated 2 years ago and I miss seeing him on the field. My youngest is now playing jr. high ball.

Pitchinside, congrats! Hopefully, it is the first of many successful games.

Please don't be offended by this and I am not being critical at all. I did want to take the opportunity to share this will everyone here. I hand this out to all of my players.

"When victory is achieved, that feeling can be overwhelming. Keep your common sense about you and be gracious. Silence is often the best practice after a win. If you must talk, praise your opponent and praise your teammates. Never praise yourself.

Why do so many athletes feel the need to tell everyone what happened - how they won, how well they performed? If you win, if you are good, people will see it. They will know without you telling them. Your job is to perform, not report.

Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class and be humble.

The most important thing to do after winning is to get right back to work. Winning can actually have a negative influence if you become satisfied with yourself. Even in victory, be critical and look for mistakes you might have made. Never be completely satisfied; always search for ways to improve.

My biggest guard is against becoming too satisfied when we win. There are many times when you've got to put the joy of winning behind you and look ahead to what really is uncertainty."

Watch out, gang, I may have 4 years of bragging ahead of me. My '07 is starting varsity RF and hitting .400 as of now. He doesn't pitch (this year) as we have 4 "heaters" that should carry us.

Wish my dad had had something to brag about...Sigh!

baseonballs50, please don't take it for more than it is. It is one way that I communicate with my kids what I consider proper behavior. It is also used in conjunction with our speech about dealing with the media. I just wanted to share it. That is why I hoped that pitchinside would take it in the right way. I know that parents will be proud of their son's achievements. I would be also. Again, I just wanted to add that as an example of what I deem real good practice for players. That is all!

Coach, as always, I think you came across just the way you meant to. We have always tried to
live by those rules and have tried to teach the
kids to do the same, whether it is on the field
of play or the field of life.

Once in a while tho...parents have to give that pat on the back that is so richly deserved.

First game is scheduled for this Sat. but as I
am writing the snow is falling sooooooo....
Good Luck to all....
Congratulations. My 12yo has been struggling to throw inside. We set the catcher up over the inside corner to get the pitch down the middle and set him up down the middle to get the outside corner. Strangely enough it seems to be mechanics, not fear of hitting batters. The first time I tried to have him throw inside to a lefty he plunked the kid.
Pitchinside,
I think he realizes it. He wasn't the least bit worried when he hit the kid and during last night's game he looked over with a smile when he did get one kid to bite the dust on an inside fastball. As far as I can tell it is more of a mechanical problem than anything else. He tends to miss to his left (rhp) even when throwing to a target with no batter present.
