Is the timing unusual? I would imagine if some kids decommit they call fill in with JUCO players maybe?
Yes, timing is unusual. Am betting there is something more to this then just now deciding to retire.
Update: Talked to a coach friend and he said that sometimes a HC will delay announcement to help an assistant get promoted to HC. Also said that rumor has been that he was looking to be an AD.

Yes to your update. Jim Calhoun did it at UCONN, Bob Stoops at Oklahoma, etc...
Nate Yeskie played in our 1992 Goodwill Series/Korea with Torii Hunter, Derrek Lee, Mickey Callaway {Mgr of the NY Mets] . Games played in Seoul Korea with the National HS Teams of Korea and Japan. Best wishes for Nate.
Bob Williams
Golden Bear here and insufferable Pac 12 homer to pay tribute to Coach Casey for his efforts promoting west coast baseball. Among the greatest coaching runs our conference has ever seen in any sport.
Is this related to the heimlich situation?

It has to do with being 59, burned out, becoming assistant AD and going out on top. Had Oregon State won last year (they were favored) he probably would have resigned last year.
Isn't assistant AD a step down from HC? What is an assistant AD doing anyway? Paperwork for the AD?

Pat Bailey is listed as Interim HC on OSU website.

It’s not having to recruit. It’s not having to travel. It’s spending more time with your family. The next step is to possibly become the AD.
