In Commonwealth District action last night the second place Black-Hawks defeated the first place Wolverines 9-3 at North Stafford. Brooke Point is now 4-1 in district play while North Stafford retains a ½-game lead at 5-1.
Evan Houde started for the Black-Hawks and lefty Sean Kennedy for the Wolverines. Houde pitched five strong innings to notch the win. Chris Denno relieved Houde in the sixth inning and Nate Connaughton came in for Kennedy, also in the sixth.
Houde gave up 3 runs, struck out four, scattered 6 hits, and gave up only 1 walk for his third district win of the season.
Shortstop Denno had a three-run homerun in the fifth inning and third baseman J.J. McDaniel was 1-for-2 with a solo homerun in the second.
Second baseman and shortstop David Dilegge went 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a RBI. Houde went 1-for-2 with a run batted in and a sacrifice bunt. Designated hitter and second baseman Connor O'Hara, outfielder Thomas Washington, and catcher Travis Cole all went 1-for-3 with Cole recording two RBIs and a sacrifice fly for the night. First baseman Andrew Tyree went 1-for-4 with a RBI double.
Wolverines’ shortstop Tyler Skidmore led North Stafford’s offense going 3-for-4 with a homerun.
The Hawks take on the Albemarle Patriots today in Charlottesville for another Commonwealth District matchup.
