Afew months ago my son went to a showcase at a local NAIA school nice place to have a showcase but only five or six scouts. Now we get a form letter, with questionaire from this university thanking my son for the interst he has shown in attending their University and would he like to come to a camp for $25.00. Does this seem rather hokey? I'm guessing they sent this out to everybody that went to the showcase. I guess they didn't get enough of my money. OR should I consider this as a request for another look at my son. My son is not a DIV I prospect so this place could be a posibility.

I am assuming you meant, 250 dollars not 25

It's not necessarily a request to look at your son again, but it is another chance for your son to be looked at again.

Is the camp trying to make money? Of course! Are they taking advantage of the mailing list from the showcase? Of course! Is the camp assuming that the players who attended the showcase are interested in baseball, interested in playing at the next level and possibly interested in attending a summer camp at a local university? Sure thing! Those are good odds for a college coach to send a camp brochure.

If you are interested in the school and think you have the ability to play there, any chance to showcase your skills to the coaching staff is a good move.

You could also look at it as a chance to increase your baseball skills which in itself has value.

As far as this school being a "possibility". I would suggest you look past simply the baseball aspects of the possibility and make sure that the school is a "possibility" for a variety of factors (academics, cost, location, team needs, coaches reputation, player use, social aspect of the school, etc..)

I would research the program, see what the roster looks like, research the school, and then have your son call the coach and have a conversation with them, ask what they need, what they look for, if they have seen him play, etc...
