Bud Metheny Award

The Metheny family,I am honored and humble to recieve and award that is named for your father. He was a mentor to me and a role model. My fondest memory of him may surprise you but it was not on a baseball field but on a creek in creeds fishing for Brim and Perch with cane poles your dad loved to fish and talk ball and I learned more about him and the family he cherished that day. Your dad had this little twinkle in his eyes when he spoke of you that was Santa Claus like. It's awesome to be recognized as the 30th recipient of the award. The list of past winners is a staggering array of baseball people from tidewater. When I was young I was very hot headed as many who read these pages would attest and it was your father and David Rosenfield along with my dad who sat me down and cared enough to put me on the path that straighten me out. Your father said two things to me that I will never forget. 1. Be kind to people on your way up Towny because you will see them on your way down 2)Care for and love your players it will go beyond the wins and loses I took that advice as part of my change in philosophy and I am forever indebted to him. I am very happy that you feel he would be pleased by me being recognized for this award and I'm glad the family feels the same way. God bless ya L and give Jeremy my best see you in January if not before if the good Lord is willing.
