I am curious what routine you have your pitchers use while pitching in the bullpen (pre-game and between games)(Note: I coach a 14u feeder/travel team).

Here is what I do:

The pitcher throws 6 consecutive pitches of each pitch (i.e. fastball, change, curve...). The overall goal is a minimum of 24 pitches but more if needed.

1. first 2 pitches are get over pitches to get a feel for the pitch

2. next 2 pitches are inside pitches

3. next 2 pitches are outside pitches

If they need a couple more throws for the pitch type they will throw that. I think pitchers get a better feel, command, and execution of a pitch when it is repeated.

Son's HS program:

After warm up.

"Stride drill" at base of mound with catcher in front of plate to get feel for mechanics, focus on follow through and finish position. 10 pitches or so.

2 FB away
2 FB down and in
2 FB up and in
4 CU's
repeat with 4 CB's
repeat out of stretch
finish off with a couple of FB's away

May go longer and work on a specific pitch or throw a simulated inning or two. All pitches have a purpose.
I like to go through all of my pitches until I feel comfortable with them. I don't have a set number of warm up pitches I throw because a pitcher's arm feels different from day-to-day to so it requires a different number of pitches to get loose. I start out with around 8-10 fastballs (mixing 2 seams and 4 seams) hitting inside and outside corners. Then I throw a few change-ups and before I move on to the curveball I throw a fastball then a change then another fastball. I don't like to throw the same pitches over and over again without throwing a fastball in between because in the game I will have to throw my fastball then my off speed, not off speed then off speed then off speed. I do the same with my curveball and my slider: throw 2 or 3 then 2 or 3 more throwing fastball in between. Then I always finish my warm up with 2-4 fastballs.
I like to get a good long toss in before I go to the pen to get my arm fully stretched out.
BTW I am a junior in high school.
