I'm curious to here what some of you guys do for your bullpens.
A couple years ago we changed our philosophy. If we were to have a pitcher throw a 60 pitch bullpen it used to be: Wind-up 15 FB, 10 CH, 5 CB Stretch 15 FB, 10 CH, 5 CB. This was all done consecutively, 60 straight pitches.

At a clinic we heard a pitching coach talk about making bullpens more game-like. He talked about 15 pitch innings being a goal to shoot for. So during our bullpens we now have two pitchers throwing. The first pitcher will throw 15 pitches and then rest while the second will throw his 15 pitches. They work back and forth until the have thrown their 60 pitches.

Anyone doing anything different? I'm always looking to improve our bullpens to put these young men in the best position to be successful and stay healthy.

Haven't had much of a chance to stop in recently. We bought a house at the end of March and it has been hectic between moving and ball season. Won't make this mistake again!!!

Anyway I like to keep it somewhat simple. A 60 pitch bullpen is done in 10 minutes for us.

W/U

4 FB middle down 4 FB middle down
4 FB inner third 4 FB inner third
4 FB outer third 4 FB outer third

2 Ch MD 2 Ch MD
1 FB MD 1 FB MD
2 Ch MD 2 Ch MD

2 CB MD 2 CB MD
1 FB MD 1 FB MD
2 CB MD 2 CB MD
2- 3-0 count FB

To end with and to increase intensity, I like to have them throw the last 16 pitches to three hitters as if it were the last inning of the championship game. The pitch selection is of their own choosing during this time.

Somehow it did not show up on this screen as I had originally typed it. We would do the same thing from the stretch with the exception of 2 FB on a 3-0 count.

Hope this helps.
