Can someone in HSSB community give me a primer on Valley (San Fernando Valley) middle school baseball, Delphic League? My son will enter middle school next year and I’d like to get background information on what to expect. I’m happy to hear any and all knowledge you’re willing to share; size of the diamond, quality of play, coaching expectations, pitfalls, etc. One specific question: Do “kids” play for both their school and Little League or Club teams (are there conflicts?)?

Thanks for the feedback. We're leaning towards Chaminade MS next year. One public school is still an option, but we should make final decision w/in a few weeks. ... Looks like the MS teams don't play as many games as Pony/Little Leagues? Does you sons MS team practice daily or couple times a week? I guess it makes sense that coaches would be "just ok" with kids playing multiple teams. Do you track pitch counts to monitor overuse (or is that bordering on parental over-involvment?)? I'm looking forward to his next step in baseball/athletics.
We have friends at both Chaminade high and middle schools. As far as the education, there are no complaints but they have mixed reviews about the baseball program. I don’t know how it is run over there but there is a lot of talent feeding into that school. At our school the head varsity coach over sees the whole program and has a no parent polices. His staff is all hired and watches out for the kids because they will be playing for the varsity someday. The ms team is either playing or practicing most every weekday from mid March till the end of May. I also have 2 in high school 1 senior and 1 sophomore. If you are looking as far forward as college and him playing baseball, GRADES, GRADES, GRADES. My senior signed his letters of intent and will be playing baseball and football in college, and there are 5 or 6 other boys from his baseball team and around 8 more from the football team that will be going on to play in college, all with good grades. The team’s record is way down on colleges list of what is important. 1st talent 2nd grades 3rd coachabilty etc…. Sorry about going off on a tangent.
A pitch count is always good and I really like rest in the off season. Play another sport. All my boys play baseball from March till around August then its Football till November Then basketball from January till March. That gives then some of November and December off to be with family and goof off like kids. Do you live in the west valley?
