Hey everyone, my son just signed his letters of intent to play baseball and football at NORTHWESTERN IOWA. We live in So. Cal. and he was born and raised here. Baseball is huge here and the talent pool is very deep. Just in our city block 4 kids have signed to play D1 and 3 others at lower level schools like my son. How is it in IOWA? He is very excited and loved his visit, so no matter what this will be a great time in his life.

Drolls- Went on the Northwestern Iowa web site and saw your son will be playing both football and baseball. Sounds like quite a challenge. I wish your son the best and welcome to Iowa. I am located at the other end of the state and can tell you that they have some great athletes in this area of the country. California has us by shear numbers but pound for pound I would and have matched us up against anyone. Make sure he brings some warm clothes because the winters can get a little uncomfortable. We usually spend our baseball winters inside which can lead to some cabin fever. There's nothing quite like hearing the ring of an aluminum bat at an indoor cage.
Congrats to your son!!!
I have a former player on the roster at Northwestern. He pitched his freshman year and is a position player this year. He is following some large footsteps in his brother was an all-american for the Red Raiders and holds many offensive records for them as well. In NW Iowa you are basically indoors until March. Then in March you might have 75 degree weather or 10 inches of snow. April is a jam packed month of games. Northwestern goes south and also plays in the metrodome each year so that helps.
Academics will be key, you miss a ton of class in the spring and with playing football as well, it is doubly important to stay on top of things.
