Anyone have any information that you would be willing to share regarding the baseball program at Cal State East Bay? Dirk Morrison is the head coach, and they seemed to have a fairly decent season last year. Looks like they lost a tough one, in the late innings, to Cal Lutheran this year to open up their season.

My son played against them last year in the West Regional. They had one player drafted last year(19th round I think) and their centerfielder was also a draft prospect-had the 2nd longest hitting streak in the nation at 35 games. They play a very challenging schedule including several very good DII teams-beat 3 last year I think. They appeared to be very well coached, very solid and from the schedule will play the best they can.

Their 3rd baseman got drafted. he hit 17 bombs
last year at hayward, but struggled some in his
rookie league.
His final stats ended up pretty decent, he just did not get many chances. I made a point of following nearly all the DIII players who were drafted last year. With a few exceptions, when they got chances to perform, the results were respectable. Know first hand that the biggest adjustment for the hitters was the quality and consistent quality of the pitching from game to game and inning to inning. If a position player does not get many chances, making the adjustments can be even tougher when moving up from the DIII level. Being in a professional organization that gives everyone significant opportunity at the minor league level is a huge advantage for a DIII player.
