recently met and visited with several parents of baseball hopefuls at the ku camp who were from california...so many kids in their state trying to play at the next level they are trying to get some attention in the midwest. interesting...do they not think we have our own large group of kids hoping to play at the next level?...guess i never realized there was a problem..or maybe its not a problem?

i know my location says missouri but i just moved here and have lived in kansas the last 11 years of my life. 7 of those in olathe, just a few minutes on K-10 from KU. first of all i think KU is becoming a more attractive program because they seem to be improving. so some kids from cali might think they could go there and play as freshman but by the time there senior year rolls around be pretty darn good as well. and yes, we do have our own kids who want to play at the next level but we don't have nearly as many as in california. plus, a lot of our kids hoping to play at the next level aren't as good as those from california. california highschool baseball is better then kansas. plus warmer weather places will always play better baseball then colder. thats not to be said our kids can't compete, just overall there are more good ball players in cali then kansas. just my opinion of course... Agree with the posts above. KU coach was long time in California and has connections with Stanford/stanford camp. Has worked the camp for years (since being with KU and before that with Cal Poly SLO). He pretty much sends out a blanket mailing to all Stanford campers and through that and other efforts, gets alot of California kids to the KU camp.
Coach Price is really building a fine program at KU and he has integrity. He also has big plans in the works to build more baseball facilities. Lawrence is an awesome college town. Price does have very strong ties to Stanford. As I understand it, a lot of other schools also attend the KU camp. I've heard good things about it. KU academics are pretty good, too.
my son thinks very highly of coach price...the few times i have visited with him i am impressed..very straight forward...his college night info at camp is incredible..all parents should have been lucky enough to attend. no bs..this is what it takes..this is what you as a player need to do and always academics first! myson will continue to attend all events offered by the jayhawk baseball progam. the new right field hitting facility is top notch
Am certain that KU has an CA Area Code tryout and/or TeamOne West list that they are sent camp invites to. Believe that KU is actively recuiting CA kids. The reality is that there are load of good players in CA. and not enough schools to accomodate them. It's a smart move on the part of KU to suppliment the homegrowns with talent from outside.
