We just got home from AZ last evening after spending a week at Spring Training. Our son is on his way today to lovely Stockton, CA for his season with the Ports......I just was looking for any other parents who's sons have played in this league and anything you might like to share with your experience or your son's experiences there. Any hints about the area if you have visited or if you live near any of these teams as we will surely visit this summer, probably a few times. Thanks and good luck to all as they start their new season - Smile

TXMom,

Thanks for the information. I had some other Email messages regarding the area. Also talked to my son last night and he filled us in on what he has seen so far.

Seems the California league has quite a reputation and the Ports will hit their 4000 game mark during this season, which is exciting.

I was told it was very warm in the summer there, being from FL that did not cause distress, but I take it from your post that at night it cools down quite a bit. So will make sure I pack a jacket.

Our son had a close friend that played in San Jose, Boof Bonser, who has since been traded to Twins. Did you son play with him at all?
We will try to work a trip around seeing San Jose as we will most likely fly into and out of SF or Oakland.

Thanks so much for taking the time to enlighten me on your experience. We were in the lovely town of Clinton and travelled through IA last year, not very exciting to say the least. We had one nice trip to upper WI and that was fun.
One thing for sure, good, bad or ugly, we follow the kid whereever he goes. Makes no difference to us - we have sat in the heat, the cold, the rain - all to support the ones we love.

Where is your son this year?

Thanks, again, Lorrie
OK you two - What famous baseball poem was written about and by a fan of the Stockton Ports?

Better know that before you head to a Ports game!

BTW, we live just north of San Jose and have been going to SJ Giants games for years. Love 'em. Especially love the BBQ down the left field line and the "Beer Batter" promotion.

I also personally know the President of the California League. Its a great league with a great tradition.

Just had to chime in about Boof Bonser ... we are Twins fans, and love the addition of this cool name to our roster! We were in Ft. Myers at Spring Training and my hubby was going to try to get Boof's autograph (said his dad would just love it). Didn't end up seeing Boof before the game, but maybe we will get some other chances. Wink
TXmom,

Thanks for the answer to an interesting piece of trivia......

Well, the first game jitters are over. My son's first trip to the mound went well, I can rest easy tonight and I know he will. After the Ports got pretty banged up their first two outings, they came back with a BIG shut out this afternoon.

MN Mom..looks like Boof is pitching at AA this season. I think he will be around for a long time, so you might get another opportunity for that autograph.
