Great tournament! Boomer was invited to go as a substitute (this is not his regular team), but got more playing time than we expected. He combined for a one-hitter and got the win in another game.

We enjoyed every moment we were there. Boomer will have wonderful memories forever (so will I). He gave up Dixie All Stars to attend the tournament and he said that he definitely made the right choice. It was a fantastic experience.

From the pin trading, to playing on exceptional grounds, to meeting new kids, to excellent coaching, he really got a lot out of the trip and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone that has the opportunity to go.

Congratulations to HS's own Redbird, the head coach of the 2004 Cooperstown Dreams Runner-up Champion, the Virginia Wildcats!

Thanks Rob for a wonderful experience.

Ross.

Ross - How did Boomer handle not knowing the kids from the other team? Did he get to practice with them at all before the tourney? I'm curious because my son may get to go to Cooperstown with another team from another state.
Beezer,

Boomer played for my team in CDP. I thought he got along well with our kids. Our kids still ask about him.

Boomer & Ross met us at a tourney in NC before Cooperstown. He hit BP with us , threw a bullpen & sat on our bench for a couple of games. We did this to make sure we were compatible. We organized his coming to CDP kinda late so we couldn't match up our schedules for anything more than this.

I would suggest doing something similar so you know what to expect out of the team.

Actually, Redbird put me in the stands with some of the other parents to see if "I" was compatible! Smile

We were very fortunate for the opportunity and it was well beyond expectations for both me and my son. If you have the opportunity, GO! I don't know if you will have the quality coaching that we had though!

I was also concerned about how he would be received by the team. All I can say is that we were very fortunate. Everyone was gracious and welcomed both of us as if we had been part of the team.

I will say that the VA crowd tends to be more the "wine and cheese" type, but I loosened them up a bit! biglaugh Just kidding, it was the best baseball experience that we have ever had.

Boomer got one of those "Awesome" Cooperstown Varsity jackets for Christmas. He never stopped talking about them since we left. And he still talks about those put-outs at 1B from centerfield!

That's the same week we were going to take our team but some of our parents dragged their feet so it was too late (all booked) by the time we went to actually submit the registration form. That's the reason why my son my be going but with another team.
As a point of clarification, we were going to Cooperstown Dreams Park. There are actually 4 (?) different Cooperstown tournament venues. I looked at all of them but figured if we're going to travel and spend that much money $600/person, we'd rather be in the biggest of the tourneys. CDP has 80 teams competing every week whereas the others are 10-16 teams.
We went to CDP last year. Great experience. Very well run program and my son is still talking about all the fun they had. There are some nice homes you can rent for week on the lake in Cooperstown. I am not sure of the cost since I stayed at the park with the team. However, they are not far from the fields and the families that stayed there really enjoyed being able to water during the hot days.
