My son recently tried out & was accepted to a baseball program that states the following: players may elect to represent the USA in competition in Puerto Rico, or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at one of our Florida or Arizona Camp & Showcase. They indicated at the tryout though that if it was getting noticed for college you were looking for then you should choose Florida or Arizona. Now here's my question/concern.....$2500 + airfair if you choose to represent USA against Puerto Rico for 7 days and $1500 + airfair for Florida or Arizona. How would a parent know if it's a scam?

I assume your interest is getting your son in front of college coaches. The amounts you quoted seem excessive compared to other very reputable programs. Our favorites include Headfirst Honor Roll Camps (2 day programs with over 100 college coaches and good access to the coaches). We also have been happy with Showball (fewer coaches, but still good access). In any case, your son should know which schools will be present and whether he has an interest and whether his academic/skill level makes sense for those schools. He should also contact, by email or phone call, the coaches before hand.
MomofA,
I see nothing wrong with naming the program in this thread. You're not saying anything negative about them, only asking for other people's experiences which is what this site is about. If someone has not had a good experience, they would probably send you a PM rather than discuss it in this forum.

I see from your public profile that your son is 14 years old. From my perspective, unless he's a stud, it sounds like a lot money being spent too early in the process. The fact that you're here early in the process is a good thing though. There's lot's of info to soak in if you look for it, and plenty of people to help with what you can't find.

Best of luck to you and your son going forward.
You can figure out the program by cutting and pasting in google. But I won't post it out of respect to the OP. But in response to the question, I personally have not heard of the program. The site does not list that coaches will attend the "showcase" in Florida.

It seems, IMO, to be a camp and that's about it. It may or may not be excellent for instruction, but it does not seem that a bunch of scouts will be recruiting from there.

Perhaps if you divulge the name, someone who has had experience with that program would be able to give you some good advice.

Good Luck!
