Ok, here is the situation.  Kid is hitting off a tee, so take pitch timing issues out. Kid hits with a lot of power, especially given that he is on the smaller side.  Mostly line drives and long fly balls (not popup to 2b).  He is hitting the ball hard, to the back of the tunnel.       

 

Dad/Coach mentions he seems to open his hips too early.  I look at him a little perplexed, but don't say anything.  I'm thinking, hips lead, create torque and hit the ball with some violence. 

 

So can you open the hips "too early?"
