Dear Girlfriends ...

I am scheduled for surgery to remove the upper lobe of my left lung on Monday 9/29. I am a little freaky about it but we are hopeful that the cancer has not spread to the nearby lymph nodes (this is really the only way to find out). If it has not spread, I most likely will NOT have to endure chemo.

I covet your prayers. The hospital stay should be 3-4 days after surgery so I should be back and running at the keyboards the following week.

Thanks for all you support in the past. I love this place !!!

Mary Ann,

I am praying for you and will continue to pray for you. I pray for the surgeons who operate on you and guide their hands safely, I pray that the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes, I pray for peace for you as you go through this ultimately at times like this is when we realize how little control we really have. God is in control and we have to trust him. I pray for a quick recovery , I pray and lift you and your family up in this difficult time. God bless FOG

Fungo ...

For some reason my laptop didn't work the last time I took it in but my good and dear neighbor brought in hers which did work. I am going to try it one more time (different floor ... should be on the top level may help). But if nothing else, Julie (MN-Mom) will be getting the scoop and can share.

FWIW ... 3:20 PDT = 4:20 MT = 5:20 CT = 6:20 ET ... synchronize those prayers, please.

All kidding aside, thanks to all for your wonderful thoughts, prayers, and good wishes. You are all my baseball family and I love this site.

There is a field, with two horses in it.
From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse.
But if you stop your car, or are walking by,

you will notice something quite amazing...

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind.

His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.

This alone is amazing.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell.

Looking around for the source of the sound,

you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.

Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell.

It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.

As you stand and watch these two friends,
you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse,
and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is,
trusting that he will not be led astray.

When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening,
it stops occasionally and looks back,
making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses,
We are not thrown away just because we are not perfect
or because we have problems or challenges.

Others are mysteriously brought into our lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse
being guided by the little ringing bell of those friends who are placed in our lives.

Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way....

Good friends are like that... you may not always see them, but you know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.
And remember...be kinder than necessary- everyone you meet is fighting
some kind of battle.

Listening for Your Bell!
Thanks, all.

I am waiting a little while to head to bed ... surgery at 3:20 pm but nothing by mouth after midnight ... gonna have a bowl of cereal and milk before I try to fall asleep.

I am so appreciative of all your well wishes and prayers and I do feel incredibly blessed to have the added support from my baseball brothers and sisters.
Mary Ann,

I'm praying for you

Psalms 86:5-7 "You are kind and forgiving, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you for you will answer me.

Psalms 86:15-16 "You Oh Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to Mary Ann and have mercy on her; grant Your strength to your servant Mary Ann."

1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you."

GOOD NEWS - Surgery Report

Mary Ann's husband Marv has given fellow friend and baseball mom Susan a surgery report to share with us all. From Susan:

I just got off the phone with Marv and wanted to let you know how Mary Ann did in her surgery today. Although they were very concerned about her ability to breath with the lobe removed, she is doing GREAT!! She is breathing on her own without a ventilator and came through the surgery better than the surgeon thought.

They took several lymph glands and have sent them to be analyzed but all in all, she is in great shape. It is 8:30PM here, her surgery was this afternoon and took about 3 1/2 hours. She will be in ICU tonight through at least tomorrow and then will be transferred to a regular room. If all goes as planned, she will come home on Thursday or Friday. They won't have test results until the end o' the week.

Thank God for a very promising result so far!

Julie
