BP Rounds and Overall Prospects

To rank this class in BP would be almost impossible. Jake Cave impressed as he always does with his plus bat speed, Nick Thompson showed the best swing in the whole camp out of 100 players as far as using his hands and staying inside the baseball. Tyler Long had some serious bat speed! There were several others who had some positive attributes with the stick:

Jake Cave - As always Jake was a pleasure to watch swing the bat. Big power from left side and hands are as quick as they come at the high school level.

Nick Thompson - Nick sprayed the ball all over the yard, with a lot of pop. Nick has filled out and his approach is great at the plate. He really will make some noise in 2010.

Tyler Long - All the coaching staff could say about Long on Sunday was "WOW!" 91 MPH from the outfield, 88 MPH on the Bump! Freakish Bat Speed in BP. What a prospect this guy is. He has really developed. Remember the name Tyler Long that will be a big name this summer/fall!

Cam Capell - Cam has some power in his bat from the left side with 15 JACKS in his High School season (and a month left). WOW! Great left handed hitter that is hard to strikeout. Capell was 84 MPH from Outfield and was 2.01 POP time from behind the dish. He can do a little bit of everything!

Tee McConnell - Great hands at the plate with a big, strong lower half. Stays on the ball and doesn't fly open. Tee was 85 MPH across diamond on Sunday in Infield. His actions were clean. Great athlete that has a lot of tools on the baseball field!

Bradley Strong - Bradley had a nice day at the yard. He ran well, he showed well in the field with his glove and arm. Strong swung the bat well from the left side. Nice compact stroke. Barrel finds the ball.

Alex Newman - Newman has only one speed on the baseball field and that's FULL SPEED! Newman ran the fastest 60 time in 2011 class at 6.68. He can go get it in the Outfield. He swung it well in bp and his hands are very quick with some pop in his bat. He can steal bases and really patrol the outfield. Definite next level prospect!

Brandon Delk - Delk has some moving parts in his swing but man does he ever have some quick hands. When he hits it comes off really really hot. He ran really well (6.7) and is mid 80's on bump with some run and funk. Delk has really turned into quite the college prospect. This is a good 2 way get for someone! Delk chunked a couple 87 mph throws from the outfield!

Dakari Cooke - Cooke had a nice day at the yard he ran a 6.8, threw 85 mph from the outfield and swung the bat well from the left side. Dakari has a very mechanical swing and doesn't get fooled often and is a very smart baseball player. Over a 4.0 GPA. Great family and great make up!

Bennett Hixson - Bennett showed some good arm strength from the outfield and ran a 7.1, which is an improvement. He has good actions in the infield. His pop time from behind the dish was 2.01 and his bat speed has increased a lot in the last year. Hixson is also upper 80's on mound. He does a lot of things well. Definite prospect in several ways!

Grant Cain - Cain hit some tape measure bombs in BP and was 83 MPH of bump. He is a prospect swinging the stick as an offensive 1B and has a shot on mound.

BP Rounds and Overall Prospects
We couldn't rank these hitters or overall prospects in any order. All we can assure you is that there are some serious big time prospects in the 2012 class. Speed, Power, Athleticism, Bats, Arms, and one of the most exciting classes behind the plate in our 6 years of doing this.

Luke Lowery - Cosby (VA) - Lowery has matured as not only one of the top catching prospects in VA but in the country. He is a physical specimen, has a CANNON for an arm, is a sound reciever and has big time power in his stick. Lowery popped 1.83, 1.87 and 1.90 on his 3 throws and tanked 5 of his 12 BP balls out of the yard - 3 to dead center. This kid has the right attitude and the knows how to get it done. Exciting prospect. You can see him with the CANES for the rest of his High School days and at Cosby High School!

Kyle Moore - Nansemond River (VA) - Moore ran 6.78 in the 60 and had a great BP round. Very athletic outfielder that can flag it down with a great arm. Moore chunked 88 MPH from the outfield in his 3 throws on a head high line! We like Kyle's bat as a gap to gap type hitter with some occasional homerun power. Makeup is off the charts! K-Mo will be in a Canes Uniform in 2010 and 2011!

Josh Henderson - Home Schooled (VA) - Josh attended a Canes tryout a few months back and has busted onto the scene. He is a freakish athlete who has some serious baseball skills. Left handed bat and the ball jumps off his bat. He has a plus arm from the outfield and is a sub 7.0 runner. Henderson has a ton of raw ability. We are super pumped up to see his progression as a baseball player over the next 2 years of his high school career. Henderson took a great BP, ran well, and threw great from the OF. MAJOR PROSPECT.

Max Schrock - Cardinal Gibbons (NC) - Max is one of the top hitters in the 2012 class in the country, can pick it in the field, great accurate arm and just an overall dirty baseball player. Plus left handed bat with some power. It seems no matter the type of arm Max faces, the fat part of the bat finds the ball and does so HARD! Schrock has really came into his own as an infielder. This kid is a legit Shortstop at the next level, off the charts at Second Base and would do a great job at 3B as well. Schrock will be with the CANES for the next few years and is emerging as a professional prospect!

Addison Braswell - Fuquay Varina (NC) - Addison is a big strong left handed hitter. 7.0 runner with a big, strong frame. Behind the plate he has some arm strength and does a good job back there. His biggest attribute is his bat from the left side. Everyone loves a big physical bat from the left side and Addison is one of the best around in the 2012 class around. Great make up! Major Prospect!

Connor Henderson - Bethel (VA) - Henderson has emerged as a very physical prospect with the bat in his hand. We have seen him hit 400' + homers since he was 14 and he has got nothing but stronger. He plays SS for his high school team but is a corner power bat guy at the next level. When he keeps his swing short, there is some serious juice in his bat. Good arm strength and can play 3B at the next level as well as be a great fit at 1B for someone. Outstanding kid with great make up and knows how to play the game!

Christian Younce - Kellam (VA) - Younce is one of the most polished catchers in the 2012 class in VA. he is a sub 2.0 arm on the bag - ALWAYS! Younce has put together some very impressive outings on the bump this year in his sophomore campaign for Kellam. He has a wirey build that has filled out a lot in the past year and should fill ot even more. He has a great swing with good balance and he is really coming into his own as a next level hitter. Younce is going to be one of those pitcher/catcher prospects that everyone wants on their team!

Matt Reed - Loudon Valley (VA) - Reed is one of the top overall prospects in the 2012 class in VA. He pretty much has it all - bat speed, swings it for average and power as wll as big time arm strength. He can be an upper 80's closer on the mound and has a CANNON from behind the plate. All 3 of his throws sunday were head high laser beams on the bag at 1.91, 1.91 and 1.93. Great makeup and very physical body. To top it off, he can play the outfield if need be and is a 7.0 runner. Big Time Prospect! You can see Reed with Canes for the rest of his High School days!

Shane Johnsonbaugh - Western Branch (VA) - Shane is a polished prospect in several phases. He runs 6.9, has some arm strength on the bump, a great defensive firstbaseman, a good defensive outfielder and a sound bat from the left side. He is a very valuable player to any team and brings a lot to the table. He is can hurt you in many ways. He is physically coming into his own and, with that, we expect him to run better and develop plus power. He is really emerging as a prospect!

Brandon Lowe - Nansemond River (VA) - Lowe showed some serious leather in his infield work. The kid can really pick it. Lowe has as good a hands as there is in the business in this class in VA. Lefthanded bat with a nice approach and short swing. He is a gap to gap type hitter with above average speed. You can see Lowe in the Canes North 16's Infield in 2010!
