Sorry, but I just can't contain myself.  I just received a text from my son.  He will be playing in the Cape Cod League next Summer!!!    I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself, as in not to jinx anything.  If anyone has any advice, all will be appreciated.    Man!  I am so excited...and the college season hasn't even started yet.

that's awesome!! congrats!

Congratulations to him!

It's the experience of a lifetime.

As you're probably aware, there's a lot of good information already posted here. Don't fail to read up on it. There are also several good books about what it's like to play there.

Try to make it up there at least once for a few days during the season; and, if at all possible, try to take in games at 4 or 5 fields. Part of the Cape's charm is the diversity among the various sites.

If you happen to be there over the 4th of July, you are certain to be treated to as quintessential a 4th of July celebration as you can possibly imagine; including a float in the host town's parade with your son and his teammates on it. I'll never forget the view as I peered up Chatham's main street as the parade approached. It was straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Way to go! They usually tell the players early in the season.  Son did not go up after freshman year, it was decided he needed the summer off.

We went up during the all star game, that was neat to see all the future ML players in one place. No question who would get drafted thst year.

I've had the honor of going to the Cape for my entire life, and naturally I've seen games all over the place. I can tell you the baseball played there really is a spectacular sight, especially when it gets to playoff time! It also becomes so much more than baseball as you see how some of the kids interact with their "host" families and mingle with crowds and whatnot during the game. For example, I know Brewsters bullpen is literally separated from the fans by just a thin rope, and kids are over there all game asking for autographs, talking with some players, and enjoying the allure of Cape baseball. I wish your kid the best of luck, and make sure to tell him to enjoy all the Cape has to offer while up there! Oh, and by the way, go Harwich Lol!

Who's on,

Your profile says you are a dad of a 2015?  As in your son just began his freshman year of college and he has already earned himself a spot NEXT SUMMER on the Cape?  I knew they made "next summer's assignments" in the fall, but for a kid who is a 7-day old freshman he's already been assigned to the Cape?

I've always found the summer assignments interesting especially how early in the year they are arranged.  Had no idea it was this early, especially for a September Freshman?  Not doubting you, just marveling.  Wow.

Love this site.  Learn so much.  Oh, by the way, CONGRATS!!!!!!

Prepster's not kidding.  Photos attached of 2010 Chatham Anglers float in Chatham 4th of July parade down Main Street.

What great photos!! Thanks so much for posting those!

Whit Whitleston's Band speaks volumes about the character of the entire celebration!

By the way, if in Chatham, the Morning-of-the-4th Pancake Breakfast prepared in a civic building near Veterans' Field is not to be missed. Make certain that your belt isn't in its last notch before sitting down to eat there.

Thanks, #1.  I never expected this.  That's for sure.

Congratulations! What an amazing experience it will be for your son! Our son just finished playing there this summer and had a great time, as did we when we visited. We rented a house for two weeks and had tons of fun. If you are planning to visit, I would HIGHLY recommend getting your rental early...we got an amazing house for a reasonable cost, but reserved it almost a year in advance ( the week after he was placed...we were pretty excited, too.)

Who's is being humble about his kid so I'll add some background.

My son played with his for a couple seasons.

His son is a low to mid-90s lefty who turned down a high round draft offer to play college ball.

One of the best, most naturally talented, pitchers I've ever seen.

His mechanics are smooth as silk and his velocity seems effortless. The ball just jumps out of his hand.

Does not surprise me that he's already on their radar up there.

He's a great kid too. Even being left handed.

He has the greatest set of parents in the world too. This could not happen to a better kid or family. They are the type that make the journey worth it. I cherish the short time we had with them. As we moved through the seasons with our son the parents and the peripheral "social" things that can have a positive or negative affect on a team became just as important as the talent level on the field and I have to say they were in my top 5 set of families to have gotten to sit and watch some ball with.

looking forward to tracking his progress through the college and for sure pro ranks.

CONGRATS!!

This is the very sort of post that continues to make this website the gem that it is!

Many thanks for sharing that perspective, RonBon!
