2007 has arrived and I certainly wish you all much success!

I was fortunate to coach a player whose father has been in Iraq for the last year and has instituted an interesting program which I believe you all would like to be a part of. It is called “Caps for Kids.” The kids in Iraq think the American Baseball Caps are the neatest thing, and LTC Devine wants to pass them out to the orphanages, as well some of the local kids in Iraq.

It is simple to help!

1. So LTC Devine can expect the package, he would appreciate it if you would let me know you are supporting this event, and I will notify him in Iraq. My e-mail is alm@mostvaluableplayer.biz

2. Send 2-3 Baseball Caps (If not new, ones in good shape will suffice) to the following address:

LTC William Devine

TF 399 CSH

FOB Diamondback

APO AE 09334

Thank you so much for your support with Caps for Kids and I certainly look forward to working with you in 2007.

Please do not hesitate to pass this e-mail

Thanks

Al McCormick

Take it from someone who knows. I've been there and done that and I can tell you first hand that anything those guys ask for that will help them relate to the Iraqi young will in the end save American lives one day. I was fortunate enough to have an endless supply of candy that I continually passed out in the the streets and was probably the only way we could get some good intel on the goings on in town. The kids are great and are just that, kids. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but for the most part they love the American Soldiers who are trying to protect their futures. Send as many hats as you can muster to the LTC, you won't regret it!

By the way PG Staff, I sent you a PM. Hope you got it....

Thanks for all your support to the troops.....Find a soldier to adopt over there and send him or her a care package full of things like baked goods, toiletries, magazines (clean-ones) they check that, and anything else you think a lonely soldier might like. The anonymous package from a well wisher is just the morale booster that could make a soldiers month.

God Bless our military men and women!
Not trying to hijack a great post or distract attention from Al McCormick's greeeeat post!

But just as a side note in support of the below quote from ARMYOFONE:

Here are some resources, if you are interested in doing the above, at some point:

The military has valid organizations & platforms that are set up to support the needs of our service men and woman. If you don't find what you are looking for, call the nearest base/post located to you and ask for their public affairs office.

US ARMY: http://www4.army.mil/outreach/support/
US Air Force: http://www.usnavy.com/
US Marines: http://www.usmarines.com/
US Navy:http://www.usnavy.com/

Just a tidbit:
There are regulations stipulating what can be sent to a soldier. Please abide by them.

Soldiers seem to be particularly proud of their home states. Boxes sent with themes such as " To any soldier, a box of support from the #1 state of ________ ( insert state name ) ", go over very well!!

Make sure the baked goods arent perishable or wont melt. ( chocolate melts,..unless its m&m's, etc. )
Snickerdoodles have a long shelf life, cupcakes ( unfortunately ) don't. Wink

Lafmom,

Any cap,..as long as not offensive ( no nudity or foul language ) should be great & probably very much appreciated.

Tidbit:
Although these particular caps I'm referring to were set aside for soldiers... I know mine came home with a Missourri baseball hat in his sand beaten duffle bag. We live in Kansas,..but it was close enough to " home " to count for him! Wink
