Carchers Helmet

I've been watching alot of pre-season MLB games for the last few weeks.I've noticed that allmost all the catchers were wearing Hockey/Goalie style helmets whereas durning the regular season,allmost all were wearing the two-piece/skull cap sytle helmets.Is there a reason for this? Has MLB made a new rule or is this the norm during spring training?

My guess is that a lot of the guys in the pre-season guys are the younger guys. For most of them, the hockey mask is probably all they know.
