my 13 year old has his first game as an umpire tomorrow and I want to get him his own mask rather than use the communal mask. Can I buy a catcher's mask or is an umpire mask unique.
Seems like a mask is a mask but I know you won't beat up on me too bad for asking this question.

I literally busted out laughing on this one. My class just looked up and stared at me like I was crazy.
too.tall as long as it's a mask to protect your face and head he'll be fine.
I umpire baseball for the past 5-6 years. If he is not going to weara HSM(Hockey Style Mask), he will need a 4-6 stitch hat underneath a traditional mask. Get a black mask in color, it will look more professional. Also make sure that mask has good pads in it. A foul ball taken off the mask can cause a concussion. Make sure mask is loose, it should fly off face on impact from a foul ball.
