Pitcher has bad eyesight and can't see normal signs, or is signs for the infielders regarding pick off plays
This is usually used as a second set of signs for when there is a runner at second so that the signs can't be picked and relayed to hitter. Of course the combination will vary but signs will indicate pitch type and location.
So how do you handle in high school, a runner who gives signs to the batter. Yesterday in high showcase the runner at second was relaying signs or he at least thought he was. The catcher was faking signs with fingers so it was not right. Just wondering. We had this conversation. I know how it happens in college and MLB. What is appropriate in high school level?
Nothing wrong with a HS runner giving sings to the batter if he can figure them out. Its incumbent on the defensive team to make sure they are not using signs that can be stolen.
Just as an example it can go like this. Runner on 2nd. The indicator is the mask for the catcher. Catcher comes out, touches chest, mask 2nd, then arm, then knee.
Then goes down & flashes 2, 1,1, wiggle, 3. It would be second sign (fastball) as he touched the mask 2nd. If he comes out next batter & goes mask first & then same sequence, it would be curveball. The touches can be used to indicate which sign is valid in the sequence depending on the indicator.
