hi all I am looking for a gift for my 12 y/o
son who lives to be a catcher.Any unique ideas?

Senior son got one of these and thought it rather cool. You know, you can always pick out the catcher by the guy carrying the huge bag (or dragging it) behind him. This backpack allowed him to carry all his stuff on his back.
He even said a couple times it reminded him of being a soldier or warrior with all the attachments.
He fit his batting helmet, catching helmet and glove in the inside pocket.
Might be something to consider.

If I think of any more I will let you know. Funny though, after 7 or so sets of catcher gear we have bought over the years, getting the actual equipment for Christmas becomes less of a "surprise."

A pitcher who throws strikes? 
What if its raining? ANy protection for chest protector?
Son's chest protector gets soaking wet every game he plays (especially in the Florida humidity.) However if you are concerned with rain falling on the protector while you are going from the car to the dugout (which is the only time I can see a concern) then you probably wouldn't want this.

A couple of companies now make "catcher sliding shorts" with padding on the inside of the thigh that I know my son will love.

catchers gear and mitt. His Pudge catchers bag is

One thing a parent might consider would be one of the Wilson hockey style masks that have the shock absorbers on the cage. Lessening the liklihood of your son suffering a concussion might be more of a gift to yourself than to your son.

This Christmas my son will get his first set of shin guards,chest protector and mitt from Santa Claus.I allready gave him a hockey style helmet earlier this year.I can see him wearing it every second of the day until his season starts in a couple of weeks.
Great idea on the Wilson Shock mask. I bought my son one in the fall and it was the best investment in catchers equipment I have made in a long time.
