Skipper one thing I have found that really helps - Stand at the cut at ss and 2b and hit fungos at your catchers. You can hit line drives that skip in at them to their right and left , hard ground balls etc. You can put them in block mode where you tell them to block everything recover and throw to a bag or tag , you can put them in pick mode where they have to pick it to make a tag in a do or die situation.

The guys really love to do this and it really helps develop soft hands. You can put in several games where you see who can block the most in a row etc. You can heat them up pretty good with a fungo and you can adjust it for each kids ability. Some kids have a hard time with the short hop play on the outfield assist to home plate. This really helps in this area as well.
