"Attached" is not a requirement of a helmet/mask combination in high school. The helmet must have double ear flaps and the combination must have been tested together.

Aren't they one in the same? I can't recall ever seeing a double ear flap helmet that wasn't attached to the face mask?

Of course it didn't matter to me because I actually preferred the goalie-style mask.
