Catchers Mask Question

High School catchers are not required to wear hockey style or one piece masks.

They may still wear double ear flapped helmets and masks that were designed to be worn together.

Agreed.....the double ear flap requirement just makes the hockey style mask the most favored/common type...

Actually during the summer, most showcases will allow you to wear the helmet and facemask not being attached. If they are not playing by NFHS rules then you can wear it.

"Attached" is not a requirement of a helmet/mask combination in high school. The helmet must have double ear flaps and the combination must have been tested together.

The advent of the hockey style mask has given some the mistaken impression that it is required in high school. It is not. (yet)

Aren't they one in the same? I can't recall ever seeing a double ear flap helmet that wasn't attached to the face mask?

Of course it didn't matter to me because I actually preferred the goalie-style mask.
