I have seen twice now arod and Cabrera try to catch a ground ball like they were receiving a throw down. Both errors. What happen to getting in front of the ball. Why are they fielding this way.

Well, one reason is, neither of them are exactly what anyone would call, “great fielding 3rd basemen”. Another is, Cabrera gets $19M a season and ARod $27.5M, but that money isn’t paid to them because they’re gold glovers. But the main reason is, the guys who write their checks really don’t care how many times they “ole’” a hard hit ball at 3rd, because its that many less times they risk injury for little or nothing.
Now take a guy like Jack Hannahan over at Cleveland making only $1.14M and in danger of disappearing the 2nd a better hitting 3b comes along for the Tribe, and you know why he’ll stick his nose in there and stay in front of everything.

Some people actually teach this method, where your chest is more open to 1B. I don't agree with it.
I just thought it was weird because if you catch it you have to make a 180 degree turn to throw it.
SS, 3b and 2b are taught to field w/ the left ear according to PAt Kelly former YAnkee.
Cabrera was lazy on that play. As a former catcher, he should know better. He was fielding like a 1b, which he has been. It is the large 1b mitt which provide the opportunity to learn to field from the side.
