Well, one reason is, neither of them are exactly what anyone would call, “great fielding 3rd basemen”. Another is, Cabrera gets $19M a season and ARod $27.5M, but that money isn’t paid to them because they’re gold glovers. But the main reason is, the guys who write their checks really don’t care how many times they “ole’” a hard hit ball at 3rd, because its that many less times they risk injury for little or nothing.

Now take a guy like Jack Hannahan over at Cleveland making only $1.14M and in danger of disappearing the 2nd a better hitting 3b comes along for the Tribe, and you know why he’ll stick his nose in there and stay in front of everything.
