It's amazing what 2 weeks, hard work and a few prayers from mom and dad can do. Sophmore son came home down in the dumps 2 weeks ago after his first practice because the coach asked him to move from the infield to centerfield. He told me during the last 2 weeks though that he was really starting to like the position.
Well, he came home after practice today and said that one of the coaches told him that he has proven himself despite never having played the position. He has earned the starting varsity centerfield spot. After hugs from mom and dad, I made sure he understood that this is just the beginning. Lots of improvement is needed to keep the spot. He can giveth and he can taketh away...the coach that is.
One word of thanks to everyone who offered their words of encouragement in my earlier post "Disappointment on First Day". I actually showed him what everyone had written and it truly seemed to help bring him out of his funk. I think your words really gave him hope and inspired him to work harder to make the best of it. Thanks a million from a grateful dad and please forgive me for showing my pride.
