OK, here's the complete scoop on the quarterfinals, provided by a head coach of one of the participating teams so I think it's reliable info:
All quarterfinal games are Tuesday, May 29.
# 8 Thomas Dale at # 1 James River, 4:30 p.m.
# 5 Patrick Henry at # 4 Hanover, 7:00 p.m.
# 7 Henrico at # 2 Deep Run, 7:00 p.m.
# 6 Cosby at # 3 Dinwiddie, 7:00 p.m.
I'm not sure exactly how seedings were determined. What I have heard in the past is that they rank teams based on their records in against other AAA teams in the region, with the regular season winners being the top 4, then the tourney champs or runners up comprising the bottom 4. Then they make adjustments in the bottom 4 to keep teams from the same district in opposite brackets. I think this is how Patrick Henry ended up as the 5 seed over Cosby; I think Cosby had the higher record, but these two were switched to move them opposite the top teams from their respective districts.
Winners of top two games would face off, as would winners of bottom two games, in the semis. I don't have the where and when yet, but I think the semis and finals are both at RF&P Park off Mountain Road (not far off I-295).
In the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, losers see their seasons end. Semifinal winners advance to the state tourney irrespective of the winner of the regional championship game.
