Son was invited by scout to a select showcase this past weekend with a number of pro scouts, college scouts etc.in attendence. His FB is honestly not that fast mid to upper 70s, thats on a good day right now. I have seen him in the low 80s. His mechanics look good. He is a junior in h.s. 6'2"-6'3" LHP 170 lbs and plays OF and 1B too.He did well went 1-2 opposite field single RBI in a scrimmage game they had . Threw his very nasty change up and threw below the speed and had kids way out in front for the 4 batters he faced from the mound.2 pop ups and a strike out and a broken bat single. (He has a 6-12 inch drop in his change up getting nastier all the time.)I told him location, location mix speeds and location. He is a little bummed out about his speed right now but I honestly don't think he has fully matured yet. What other things can he do in the off season and next couple of years to at least get that speed into the mid to upper 80s. Long tossing, bands, what else?

Another thing to contemplate; his arm speed won't improve by throwing an inordinate number of "off-speed" pitches.

It's great that he is mastering the CB and change. But if he's doing it at the expense of fastball development he isn't doing himself a favor.

Getting Bigger, faster, and stronger should always be a goal. However, you only learn to throw harder by practicing, a lot, throwing harder! He should, IMO, be throwing mostly FB's in games and I'd throw in a good Long Toss program to boot!
