Has anyone any knowledge of players signing an NLI and then trying to back out and go to another school?

My understanding is you lose a year of eligibility if you do not honor the NLI by going to a different school.
A lot depends on the situation. Some schools will grant a release (assume you're talking about a NCAA LOI). If you've been there and played, that's a different scenario than vice versa. There's no release needed to play at NAIA or JUCO as they're not governed by NCAA.
We're currently in the process of obtaining a release from a JUCO LOI. Not going quite as smoothly as I had wanted.

Not sure of the question either, are you talking about signing before one enters college.
I am sure it is done, but will tell you this, usually not.
