Changing Positions

2ndbasemom, I didn't think it would make any difference before, but now that Bret has signed with SIU I wouldn't worry about it at all. Congratulations to Bret and your entire family.

I may be looking at this the wrong way

but isnt whats best for the team better then making all conference?

Ive started at 6 positions this year and I doubt it will hurt anything. I think its safe to say Bret is safe. Congratulations on signing.

hey Mrs. Maugeri tell bret that I said congrats..that is really awesome for him..i am really glad that his hard work paid off for the best. i wish him the best of luck next year.

Mr. D...oops,,,Bill, The team IS the important thing,,,I just asked the question if it will hurt his chances at All Conference. It would be a shame not to get that honor with only 3 conference games left, especially since the team doesn't have a chance.

Also, THANKS EVERYONE for your good wishes for Bret. This whole process is sooooooo nervewracking!!! And Good Luck to all you guys that have played ball in and around Chicagoland.

In the SICA West, All Conference is determined initially by what place your team finished in during the conference season; and, then a few at-large selections.

If Bret doesn't make All Conference, then they should disband the SICA West.

Simple as that.

Mr. D... Bret is a team player, coach needed a centerfielder and thats where he played this evening...(as a mom observing tho, he looked so lonely out there...I'm thinking I should put a phone in his back pocket so he can call and say hi! lol)

Beenthere - If that is really how they do it in the SICA West it is sad. Most conferences have the coaches get together, submit recommended names and then hash it out until they have the best players represented.

Bret will still be submitted as a second baseman and should get the nod from the league coaches. I don't think there should be too much to worry about.

I hope Bret has great success at SIU.

Bench...Just to clarify....

The top team, for example, nominates x players;
second place gets y players; third place get z players and down the line.

The first place team, for example, Lockport, will get about 8-115 slots (not sure exactly);
last place team gets 2-3.

The best teams in the conference don't have the best coaches. They have the best FEEDER systems with parents who spend time and energy promoting their kids and coaches who pay attention to the leagues which "feed" their programs.

Lockport's other big advantage is that they have lights on their field and play some of their most competitive teams at night. A distinct advantage, too, when kids play under lights the first time compared to other kids who play 5-10 games each season at Lockport.

Mr. D...your apology accepted. We've played two games since my original post, and Bret has played CF in both...not one ball has been hit to him!!! Gee at this rate I could play CF!

A little after the fact, but how is SIU doing at 2B and OF?

Often times, HS coaches will try to get their players some experience at the position they project at on the college level.

Gee, I forgot about this subject!! Kid was only
in the outfield for I think 2 games.

Coach Callahan said he would be at 2nd...but who knows...Bret is bringing his infielders mitt, his outfielders mitt and we might just get him a first basemans mitt and catchers mitt!!! Gotta cover all the bases ya know...
