College of Charleston:

Excellent baseball program. Everyone expects Coach John Pawlowski to get grabbed up by an SEC/ACC or Conf USA school one of these days. He's been approached as a pitching coach, but he'll get the head job eventually.

BA has them ranked in the Top 30 this year ... They've been one of the powerhouses of the Socon over the past two seasons.

Charleston is a great city to live in. The school itself is excellent. The baseball facilities are over the harbor in Mount Pleasant which is quite a way from the campus, but they are beautiful.

Charleston Southern:
They have a new head coach who took over in late August. He was formerly the assistant at the University of Michigan, so it will take awhile for him to get his feet on the ground and get a feel for the players in the region.

He didn't get long to get organized since Charleston Southern starts their pre-season games 1/28 against Florida State. Last year they started the regular season against USC and played them pretty tight in 2 of the 3 games.

The field is decent but not up to the standards of the other facilities in the Big South conference. Coastal and Winthrop leave it in the dust. They had a decent record in conference, but weren't really competitive against the top teams last year. Tbat may change with a new emphasis on recruiting.

I'm not a fan of the campus. It's too separate from the city of Charleston and feels isolated.
Dad is pretty well right about the programs, now.

CC is top 30, Nice baseball facilities (actually very nice) Coach P may be on the move someday...Auburn was strong on him, but he withdrew his name to stay at CC. Campus is dead downtown. A good education

CSU...Small Christian school, Nice Campus (nothing special)Also a good education. Field is about 2 years old so not a stadium atmosphere like Winthrop or Coastal. New coach has big school credential, but as an assistant and recruiter.

I beieve CSU might be on the upswing though...upgrades on coaching in football and baseball in the past 2 years shows some commitment to upgrade...Football made a big stride this past year. Baseball team is loaded with Srs. this year 14 or 15. Could mean good opportunities. With the late start this year Coach Murray may go the JC route this spring- Don't know though. At CSU, Pitching has been the Strength & WEAKNESS. Depth!!! After Swindall (Now with the Red Sox)they were shaky...Team could hit and should still be good offensively. I believe gametime coaching will improve their record this year. Also a couple of JC transfer Pitchers could strengthen their staff.

I will question PhoenixDad about location though....
CSU...About 10 mi from downtown Charleston, Winthrop...about 10-15 mi from downtown Charlotte, Coastal... about 10 mi to Myrtle beach. A sounds about the same to me. As a parent downtown is nicer, but as a student and a ballplayer...downtown is not that big of a factor...
School, Practice, Study, Practice, Meetings, Practice...Conditioning & Practice!!!! Yes, Downtown Charleston is nice!

GOOD LUCK in your search and choice.
