Former Flower Mound Jaguar and current Howard Hawk has been recognized for two prestigious academic awards. I have become a big fan of this kid...team leader, "glue" guy in the locker room and a clutch ballplayer. Here are the awards:

"Chase Durham was nominated for the All-USA Academic Team sponsored by Phi Thetea Kappa, USA Today, and the American Association of Community Colleges. To be eligible for nomination, a student must post a minimum of 3.25 GPA and be eligible to graduate with an associate degree."

"Durham was additionally honored with the most prestigious award given to a student of Howard College - The Presidential Award for Outstanding Student of the Year. This award is given to a sophomore level student and is selected based on academic excellence, participation in student life, leadership qualities, and overall college spirit. Nominations are received from all employees."

Dallas Baptist is getting a good one!

In all my years of amateur baseball, Chase Durham is one of the finest young men I have ever known, on and off the field.

Starting with his days as a FM Rattler, to his days with the McKinney Marshals and his senior summer with the Dallas Tigers, Chase is that one in a million kid.

The first kid out of the dugout to slap a high five to a team mate after he scores...The kid who always helped with picking up equipment after the game...The kid that was always IN the game, no matter what the score was...The kid who played any position, batted wherever you told him to bat, and the kid you could count on in the clutch...

Chase Durham had his pick of schools to attend from around the Southwest and he chose DBU for one reason only, to serve the Lord. In a world of selfishness, this guy is a giver, this guy is a winner and will be for his entire life.

If you have a high school kid that needs someone to look up to, go out to DBU next Spring and watch Chase play the game the way it is supposed to be played.
