I was just reading the discusion on wood bats when a question came to mind.
How do you choose a good wood bat?

I don't mean the length and weight, but how can you tell a quality wood bat from an average one?

I would think that there are some fine points to it and was wondering what they are.

My son would like to try them out.

There's also a few "technical" things to consider, that I learned from the gentleman that hauls the PG mdse. all around the country. And it is very true!!
1. A straight grain
2. Close & evenly spaced
3. No knots waves
4. If a bat is painted, you can't see the grain
5. Maple is a hardwood & will last longer. Ash is softer, not as dense, so not as strong.

Son used Sam Bats before they sold out. I understand that the same man is again producing a great product!
And, as others have said, feel has alot to do with it.
