I know there is a lot of talk on this message board about Class L, but has anyone taking a look at whats going on in Class I? Bedford pulled off the first round upset, this team is loaded with young talent, they lack any Seniors, these guys are young and talented and dangerous. Plymouth v. Bedford should be a good match up, the newest team in High School Baseball vs. one of the most respected coaches in State history in Plymouth's Tom Underwood. Merrimack Valley vs. St. Thomas should be an intersting match up however, I think the edge goes to St. Thomas. I am predicting Lebanon over Hanover and Portsmouth will cruise by Con Val.

The Portsmouth vs. St. Thomas game i went to this year was a Portsmouth beat down. I wonder if a second crack at them woudl be a different story.

i guess we'll find out.
conventional thinking gives st. thomas a huge edge,( pitching ). but you can't get to the finals, being a one horse rodeo. should be a great game.
I watched St. Thomas on Wednesday and their defense is much improved from the last game played against Portsmouth. What I alos noticed was the emotion of the ST players - they seem to be focused on the task at hand.

ST can flat out hit and their pitching is underrated. If Nate Jones pitches for Portsmouth on two days rest (and can be effective) the pitchers match up ok (John Hayes is a very good pitcher). Defense Portsmouth gets the nod at catcher, 1st, second and short. The corner outfielders are a wash and ST gets a slight nod in center based on arm strength (both CF can go get the ball with the best of them). The differences in talent in all defensive positions is minimal other than shortstop. Ben Johnson and my son have player summer ball together for a few years and Ben does a good job at shortstop but Fransoso is much better. I think both of them will end up at 2nd in college.

Maybe Portsmouth has a slight advantage with Championship game experience. They could also have a small mental advantage as they have beat ST four times in a row. Personally I think ST will use this as their rallying cry - I would.

I just hope its a good between the two best teams in Class I. I don't want to see a repeat of their last game no matte who wins - very ugly
