So school baseball uniforms were passed out and the white uniform has apparently had a tough life before we inherited it...one uniform is mostly white, with dark accents (and I am assuming it will need to be returned).  We have had great success keeping our own prior light and white uniform pieces in great shape, but these white pieces have sliding stain remnants all around. Stains appear pretty set in. Any tips for making the white recycled uniform pieces look less...dingy (without ruining it)?

Baseball04,

why do you want to starch the uni? If the pants are soiled it appears you have. “Pete Rose”, Pete dirtied his uni to present his image “Mr Hustle”.

Indeed, Pete Rose and his entire team have been sliding around in this uniform.

Son usually does an excellent job dirtying his uniform, although we do try to clean in between games (so he can dirty it again).  Just thought that perhaps we'd try to START games somewhat clean.  We are very used to cleaning son's stains from game to game, but now we are working with the stains of the ghost of Pete Rose, too...

Soak in Fels Naptha (grate soap and dissolve in hot water).  Or, once you have scrubbed, simply drop in a bucket (no rinse) and fill with warm water.  These can easily soak 24-48 hours.  Also, the no dryer is improtant, especially for new uniforms.  I can only assume the old stains are pretty much set by repeated drying.  A good garden hose or light pressure washing after soak can also help.  A friend told me they went to the local coin op car wash and used to foam spray.

I got real good at buying pants on the market that were identical to the white ones.  I would buy several pair if they were identical so they would last the career.  One year we bought almost all brand new pants for the team because when my sons came out in bright white pants the rest of the parents wanted to know how that was possible.  They all were ordering a large quantity while the first game was going on.  It is hard but possible.

Iron Out is my go to but it or the others won't work if the previous parents dried the stains in in the dryer.
