The concensus on this board seems to be that Juniors should register this summer for the Clearinghouse. OK
What about SAT results and transcripts. Should I go ahead and have the SAT results sent to the Clearinghouse. He took the SAT last week, 1st time; his GPA at this point is 3.57 so he only needs a combined score of 450 or 480 (can't recall which), I would hope he comes out with at least that.
I talked with his guidance office and they were wanting to wait until next summer to send transcripts, is this correct or do I press them to send them this summer also.
Any other tips or things we need to know??

If I interpret the clearinghouse requirements correctly, they take the highest scores from either SAT or ACT and combine with the sliding scale GPA. Our experience was that the counselors at my son's school knew very little about the clearinghouse or NCAA eligibility. We had to do the homework ourselves up to and including making sure that the classes at my son's school met the criteria for the NCAA. Nothing really happens on the clearinghouse site until all the final transcripts are in for the senior year. You have to make sure that you get that form signed and delivered to the highschool transcript people so they send all that stuff to the clearinghouse. Then you wait. And from what I understand, you might not hear about final eligibility until your son has started his freshman year in college.
We sent transcripts in the summer before the senior year. That way, they (and you)can review it and see what is still missing. If we had not done that, we might not have caught the fact that courses taken in junior high do not count, even though they may count for your high school credits. The NCAA requires that all courses be taken during the four years in high school.

When you mark the recipients that you want scores sent to for the SAT or ACT, the NCAA has a code that you can mark for them. That way, you don't have to go out of your way to send scores - they will be automatically sent.
The scores must now go directly to the Clearinghouse---Scores on your HS ranscript do not count

I suggest you register the summer prior to your senior year so you get the ball rolling---keep in mind that every HS athlete, male and female, in the country who aspires to play Division I or II ball , is registering---you can do the math !!!
