Because you don't want the next guy who has to testify before Congress thinking he'll be able to come in and lie to them. Because the next guy might be testifying about something of real importance, that we'll need to deal with correctly, and we'll need the information to be accurate.

Its an issue that is far more important than baseball or steroids, and this judge ought to be shot for not taking better care of his trial.

Um...if the judge was taking care of the prosecution, how exactly would someone get a fair trial?

No way in the world you can spin this to put it on the judge...the prosecution screwed up.

Whether or not he's guilty or not, THANK GOD we live in a country where a person is innocent until proven guilty.
You're right, I misspoke (misremembered...?). It was the prosecution who dropped the ball, not the Judge. (Even though he still owned the proceedings that led to a mistrial).

My point is the same, though. The state had an obligation to try this case correctly, and they botched it. It's not because Clemens may or may not be guilty of using steroids, but because there was evidence he may have committed perjury. You have to go after perjury.
