A young man that used to play football and baseball for me when he was younger has gotten a summer job as a clubbie for a rookie ball team. He called me and asked for some advice and if knew anything about what he's getting into lol. I don't have a clue what it's like today. So anyway if any of you that played or had kids that played in the minors. Any advice that you would give to a young clubbie so I can pass it on to him.

Scotty,

As TPM indicated, he will work hard, really hard.  His hours will be during the game for sure.  His hours will be before the game by several and after the game, by several.

One thing he has to know: some of these guys will treat him like royalty, which is one of them. He will be on the receiving end of jokes, laughs, and all the goofy things which lightens the load in  a locker room.  He will need to be sensitive to when a player is down in the dumps because he did not perform well and down in the real dumps because he just learned he has been released.

What I understand could be a true challenge is the player who treats him like...

There won't be many. It probably won't be who he might guess but there will be 1-2 and they can be jerks.

My guess is he can handle all the physical aspects.  By doing his job well and quietly, he will quickly earn the respect of most players. Just a few will be jerks...sort of like life!
